Amazon CEO’s divorce sheds light on the value of asset valuation

Shopping on Amazon is a common event in the lives of many individuals throughout the nation. Rather than going to their local big box stores or local establishments, Florida residents may submit orders through the online retail giant to deliver their purchases to their doors, sometimes even on the same day as they were requested. Due to Amazon’s established place in the retail market, its CEO has become the richest man in the world.

Jeff Bezos is estimated to be worth around $137 billion, and just recently he and his wife of 25 years have decided to end their marital relationship. While they share 4 children and will likely have to settle many issues related to the custody and support of those kids, much of the focus of their divorce will focus on how the couple will settle their enormous martial wealth.

Legal experts believe that the settlement process alone in their divorce could take months, and that it will likely involve the use of valuation experts and forensic accountants to determine the true value of the items the couple will have to divide. Men and women who work in these important fields can provide divorcing couples with accurate valuations for the items they own so that they can work out reasonable property division schemes to fairly settle their asset and wealth claims.

Most couples will not ever have to deal with the level of wealth that Bezos and his soon-to-be ex-wife currently have. However, the same practices and principles that apply to high asset divorces like theirs may also be useful to individuals of more modest means who must divide up their property when they go through divorces.
